Contra Costa Health Services did not receive a grant award. Find out what's next for Contra Costa.

On September 17, 2009, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced the release of $373 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to fund the first part of a new $650 million initiative entitled, Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW). This landmark initiative will create healthier communities across the nation through innovative and proven approaches that address physical activity, nutrition, and tobacco use.

In Contra Costa, the County Health Department was the only entity eligible to apply for CPPW funds. Contra Costa was considered a "Large City" for this RFA and could compete for grant awards from $10 million - $20 million. Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) applied for a grant to support access to obesity prevention and nutrition and physical activity promotion.
