CommitteesMedical Advisory CommitteeEstablished in 1977, this committee provides advice and recommendations to the EMS Agency and EMS Medical Director on medically related topics. Examples include ALS and BLS medical treatment guidelines; new prehospital skills and/or medications; prehospital policies and procedures related to patient medical management; and review of medical quality issues. Membership consists of base hospital coordinators, liaison physicians, representatives from each ALS provider agency, and receiving hospital emergency physician representatives. Emergency Medical Care CommitteeEach county may, under the Health & Safety Code, establish an Emergency Medical Care Committee (EMCC) with membership prescribed and appointed by the county board of supervisors. The EMCC acts as an advisory body to its board of supervisors and local EMS agency on all matters relating to EMS. Hospital Disaster ForumThis forum provides an arena for interested individuals and agencies to discuss issues of mutual concern regarding hospital disaster preparedness. In addition to hospital representatives, membership of the Forum consists of city disaster planners, ambulance and fire agencies, OES and the EMS Agency. Speakers from both private and government agencies are welcome to support hospitals and cities in disaster preparedness. Facilities and Critical Care CommitteeThis committee evaluates/makes recommendations to the EMS Agency with respect to issues that impact hospitals and their interface with the EMS system. EMS for Children (EMSC) Advisory CommitteeThe EMSC Advisory Committee consists of multidisciplinary representatives from the Contra Costa EMS community and pediatric community. The committee acts to review and support Contra Costa County EMSC program. The Advisory Committee was formed in 1999 to develop the 2002 Contra Costa EMS Plan. Membership includes representatives from all of our receiving hospitals, pediatricians and pediatric emergency department experts, pre-hospital first responder and transport agencies and community groups. The committee is coordinated by an EMSC coordinator in collaboration with the EMS Medical Director. In 2007 the EMSC Advisory Committee was re-established and reviews issues electronically. EMSC Advisory feedback is appropriately addressed and integrated as part of various groups such as Medical Advisory Committee and Quality Improvement Committee and Facilities. The EMSC Advisory Committee welcomes input and participation from interested parties. For more information contact Pat Frost, RN, MS, PNP EMSC Coordinator at pfrost@hsd.cccounty.us. EMS Quality Improvement CommitteeThe Contra Costa County EMS QI Committee is a patient-focused partnership that consists of designated stakeholders, EMS Medical Director and members of the EMS staff assigned to clinical programs. EMS QI activities are coordinated under the EMS Medical Director and QI Cioordinator. This committee is advisory to the EMS Agency Leadership which includes the EMS Agency Medical Director, EMS Director and EMS Assistant Director. The Committee meets monthly. The Quality Improvement Committee produces regular reports of its activities and presents these reports to the Emergency Medical Care Committee. For more information contact Pat Frost, RN, MS, PNP EMS QI Coordinator at pfrost@hsd.cccounty.us. EMS Data Advisory Group (DAG)The EMS Data Advisory Committee is a subcommittee of the EMS QI committee. The purpose of the committee is to address EMS system quality improvement data processes by identifying issues and making recommendations for improvement. The subcommittee consists of EMS stakeholder data experts, analysts and facilitators. For more information contact Pat Frost RN, MS, PNP EMS QI Coordinator at pfrost@hsd.cccounty.us. EMS Best Practice Virtual Advisor GroupThe EMS Virtual Advisor program is a Quality Improvement Advisory Group that gives anonymous input and feedback about the EMS system. This program was designed to improve communication between EMS and the field provider giving "real world" input and perspective that is both important and valued. Membership is limited to EMTs and Paramedics within Contra Costa County who are willing to participate in anonymous surveys and electronic focus groups. Time commitment is minimal, one survey a month (at the most), on topics that EMS is working on. Members may join at any time. To join, please send your email address, agency, and years of experience to Pat Frost, EMS QI Coordinator, at pfrost@hsd.cccounty.us.
