Stakeholder Workgroups for the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA)

Planning and implementing the various components of the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) requires counties to engage various stakeholders to ensure input in developing recommendations for new programs and services.

Who are the Stakeholders?

For the Community Services & Supports component of the MHSA, required stakeholders include consumers, family members, providers of services, social services (Employment & Human Services in Contra Costa County), education and law enforcement. Stakeholders also need to be reflective of the geographic and demographic make-up of the county

The State Department of Mental Health (DMH) also suggested that counties consider including a range of human service agencies and individuals in the planning process.

Stakeholder Orientation

Contra Costa Mental Health offered two orientations for potential stakeholders in February and March 2005. Close to 300 individuals attended and 155 people submitted application forms to be on one of four stakeholder workgroups (children, transition age youth, adults and older adults).

Stakeholder Selection

The stakeholder workgroups were selected by a committee of five including a consumer, a family member, a Program Chief from the Mental Health Division, the Chair of the Mental Health Commission and the chair of the Mental Health Disparities Workgroup.

Stakeholder Section

The four stakeholder workgroups will meet approximately six times throughout the spring. Minutes of each meeting will be available here. The meetings are open to observers.
