The Position
The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is recruiting qualified individuals to fill a vacant Clinical Nurse Specialist position. This position will be located at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez, California and be assigned to both the Critical Care and Emergency Department. A future vacancy may be available in the Psychiatric area. The Clinical Nurse Specialist serves as expert clinician and patient advocate; designs and utilizes appropriate methodologies to identify and address gaps in knowledge and skill of nursing personnel and other healthcare providers. In addition to providing professional advice and consultation, the incumbent selected for this position will serve as a change agent and leader to identify opportunities to improve care and impact resource utilization and care delivery at the organizational level and across the patient populations; contribute to the professional development of peers, colleagues and others; and systematically develop criteria for and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and organizational systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of California with designation of Clinical Nurse Specialist and possession of a master's degree with a major in nursing from an accredited college or university are required for all positions. Psychiatric positions require the designation of Clinical Nurse Specialist in the specialty of Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.
Emergency Department/Critical Care (ICU/IMCU) Positions
Experience: The equivalent of three years of full-time experience as a registered nurse within an acute care hospital or acute care setting one year of which must have been in an emergency department and/or Critical Care.
Certification: Possession of a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association and national certification in sub-specialty are (CCRN or CEN) is desired.
Labor and Delivery Positions
Experience: Three years of full-time experience (or the equivalent of full-time experience) as a registered nurse within an acute care hospital or acute care setting one year of which must have been in a labor and delivery unit.
Certification: Possession of a current Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certificate (NRP) issued by the American Heart Association and proof of successful completion of an accredited course in advance fetal monitoring within the twelve (12) months prior to employment; or successful completion of the Contra Costa County Health Services Advanced Fetal Monitoring Test within six (6) months of employment.
Medical/Surgical Positions
Experience: Three years of full-time experience (or the equivalent of full-time experience) as a registered nurse within an acute care hospital or acute care setting one year of which must have been in a medical-surgical specialty.
Certificate: Possession of one of the following current certificates: Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters Line (PICC), Chemotherapy; Conscious Sedation; or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
Psychiatric Positions
Experience: Three years of full-time experience (or the equivalent of full-time experience) as a registered nurse within an acute care hospital or acute care setting one year of which must have been in a psychiatric nursing unit (Inpatient or Psychiatric Emergency Services).
Certification: Possession of one of the following current certificates: Certification in Psychiatric Nursing from the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Prior to employment, a background investigation will be conducted on all candidates. Fingerprints will be taken.

Candidates must receive a rating of at least 70 from a majority of the Board members to be ranked on the employment list. (Weighted 100%)
