Program Coordinator - School Based Health Centers
Term of Appointment: August 2008 - March 2009
Hours per week: 20 - 40 (negotiable)
Hourly Rate: $27.85 - $29.24 per hour based on experience
The TeenAge Program (TAP) is one of the Family, Maternal and Child Health Programs within the Public Health Division of Contra Costa Health Services. TAP provides comprehensive health education in schools, juvenile detention facilities, and community-based organizations; facilitates youth access to health services through school-based health centers and a teen clinic navigation project; coordinates a variety of school-based youth development and mentorship projects throughout the county; and provides training and technical assistance to teachers and other youth service providers throughout the county. In collaboration with Public Health Clinic Services, TAP currently operates school based health centers at two high schools in West Contra Costa Unified School District. This September we will be expanding services to two high schools, three middle schools and six elementary schools in the county.
Position Description
The Program Coordinator (Senior Health Education Specialist) is a temporary position. The Program Coordinator works to increase youth access to clinic services through the expansion of mobile school based health services including serving as a liaison between TAP, school districts, and other public health programs. The Program Coordinator may also collaborate with other TAP staff on health education and/or youth development projects depending on program need and applicant skills and experience. The Family, Maternal and Child Health (FMCH) Programs' Director provides supervision for all TAP staff, including this position. This position will be based in Martinez and includes travel throughout Contra Costa County.
Specific Responsibilities
- Represent TAP among various partners involved in the countywide expansion of mobile school based health services, including Public Health Clinic Services, Contra Costa Health Services, school district personnel and school site administrators.
- Collaborate with other TAP staff and Clinic Services to plan and implement the expansion of school based health services in Mt. Diablo, West Contra Costa and Pittsburg Unified School Districts.
- Establish linkages with schools and districts involved in the school based health center expansion to support the introduction of services.
- Collaborate with and provide lead direction to other TAP school based health center staff as related to project expansion.
- Serve as the liaison between the county and the California School Health Centers Association.
- Collaborate with other TAP staff on existing health education and/or youth development projects involving middle or high school students as appropriate.
Education: Possession of a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in public health, health services administration, social work or a closely related field.
Experience: One (1) year of full-time or its equivalent experience in a health services agency or program performing health promotion, health prevention or community health education work.
Substitution for Education: A baccalaureate degree and two years of full-time or its equivalent experience in a health services agency or program performing health promotion, health prevention or health education work may be substituted for the Master's Degree. No substitution is permitted for a baccalaureate degree.
Two years experience in Family, Maternal and Child Health, adolescent health, and/or school based health centers preferred. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to work in a leadership role with youth and adults. Appropriate candidates will work well independently and as a team member. The applicant must possess a valid California driver's license and reliable transportation. Reimbursement is provided for travel between program sites.
