Nutrition, Physical Activity and Food Security Project

On the Move with Foodwise

Launched in 1994, the OMF program delivers nutrition education through workshops, training and food demonstrations to lower income households in Contra Costa County. A worksite wellness program was added in 1999 to address the needs of lower wage workers.

Food Security

"Food security" is the term we use to describe efforts to improve access to nutritious food and a healthy diet. In West Contra Costa, where many neighborhoods don't have a supermarket, we have a coalition that is working on a variety of projects to improve food security.

Food and Nutrition Policy Consortium

FNPC was established in 1987 to address a range of food policy issues in the county, from preventing hunger to helping reduce the incidence of nutrition-related chronic diseases. Every five years, FNPC comes out with a hunger report that profiles the nutritional status of the county's lower income population.
