Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD)
Healthy Outlook: Teens and STDs
Sexually Transmitted Infections are steadily increasing in Contra Costa (see our Epidemiology Unit's STD maps and tables page). The numbers are very high in sexually active youth under the age of 25 years. We encourage all persons who are sexually active to practice safer sex. By using a barrier such as an intact condom, the risk of spreading an infection is decreased. We also recommend that those who are sexually active with multiple partners get a medical exam every 3-6 months. If you are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection, tell each partner with whom you have had sex in the previous 60 days to get tested. The STD program has three evening clinics a week which offer screening, diagnosis and treatment services for STD including syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis and herpes.
Please call 1-800-479-9664 to make an appointment and to advise clinic staff of any special problems or for consultation or information.
