Ensure all patients, especially those planning international travel, are up to date on MMR vaccine per CDPH recommendations. Consider an early MMR dose for infants 6-11 months and anyone ≥12 months w/only 1 dose of MMR if traveling (internationally or domestically) to areas with potential for exposure.

- Isolate patient if measles suspected, in an AIIR, immediately, and alert infection control before collecting specimens for testing.
- Have systems in place to identify infectious patients immediately and possibly prior to presenting such as via a telehealth triage system.
- Immediately report all suspect, probable, confirmed measles patients to public health and for testing and isolation guidance.
- Testing for measles must be done at the public health lab. Submit urine AND a nasopharyngeal or throat swab for PCR to the Contra Costa Public Health Lab. Include the Measles Case History Form and CC PH Lab Requisition Form with all specimens and submit simultaneously to avoid delays in reporting results. DO NOT let the patient leave without collecting specimens first. Public health is unable to assist with specimen collection.
