Key Messages:
- Risk to the general public remains low. No suspected, probable, or confirmed cases related to these outbreaks have been reported within the United States or California. Only low exposure risk travelers will be allowed to return to their homes. High exposure risk travelers will be quarantined at the port of entry.
- Asymptomatic, returning travelers DO NOT need to quarantine and DO NOT need to restrict their movement.
- Contra Costa Public Health will provide guidance to returning travelers, so they know when and how to seek care for both emergent and non-emergent medical needs.
- Asymptomatic, potentially exposed individuals cannot transmit the Ebola virus and should not be refused care for symptoms not concerning for infection
- If they develop symptoms concerning for infection, local public health will consult with CDPH and CDC prior to patient transport and accessing medical care
- Be prepared and review policies regarding care for a patient with suspected viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF)
- All acute care facilities are expected to care for a patient with a VHF for up to 72 hours
