Getting vaccinated is the best gift you can give this Mother's Day

Post Date:05/05/2021

Thanks to safe and highly effective COVID-19 vaccines, many people in Contra Costa can celebrate Mother's Day in person this year.

People who are fully vaccinated can safely gather on Sunday with small groups of other fully vaccinated people, or with unvaccinated people from one other household.

If you have not yet received your vaccine, making your appointment and getting vaccinated is the best gift you can give this Mother's Day.

"After a year of virtual hugs and visits, Mother's Day is a great opportunity to reconnect with family and loved ones," said Anna Roth, health director for Contra Costa Health Services. "We've made great progress in the fight against COVID, but the pandemic is not over yet. It's important that we continue to make healthy choices to keep up our momentum."

This is also a great time to remind moms-to-be that getting a COVID-19 vaccine during pregnancy can protect you from severe illness from COVID-19. If you have questions about getting vaccinated, CCHS recommends talking to your healthcare provider.

People ages 16 and older can make an appointment online or by calling 833-829-2626. Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) also has several vaccine clinics that do not require an appointment. And if your mom needs help making an appointment, try our Help Your Neighbor tips.
