Contra Costa Seeks Applicants for Hazardous Materials Commission Seats

The Contra Costa County Hazardous Materials Commission is seeking applicants for one environmental justice representative seat and one environmental justice representative alternate seat.

The commission is a voluntary body appointed by the Board of Supervisors and makes policy recommendations to the board and county staff on issues concerning hazardous materials and hazardous waste.

The commission’s 14 members and alternates serve four-year terms and include representatives from industry, labor, civic groups, environmental organizations, environmental engineers, the public, cities, and environmental justice communities.

Ideal candidates:

  • Committed to environmental justice
  • Live in a Contra Costa community affected by hazardous materials
  • Represent community interests
  • Interested in hazardous materials issues
  • Available for monthly meetings

Applications may be submitted by mail, email, or online at https://www.contracosta.ca.gov/3418/Appointed-Bodies-Committees-Commissions. The deadline to apply is Monday, Nov. 3, 2025. Mailed applications must be received, not postmarked, by the deadline at the Clerk of the Board’s office.

Interviews for qualified applicants will be held on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon.
