Third-year residents have the option to pursue the Continuing Reproductive Education for Advanced Training Efficacy (CREATE) track, to obtain structured, advanced training to prepare them to provide medication and procedural abortions after residency. CREATE is a part of Training in Early Abortion for Comprehensive Healthcare (TEACH).

Our residency's implementation of the CREATE program includes:

  • Additional shifts at Planned Parenthood
  • Completing TEACH's virtual medication abortion CME course
  • Applying for a CREATE scholarship to do an away elective in abortion training (receiving a scholarship is not guaranteed, but our residents usually obtain a scholarship)
  • Attending remote evening didactic seminars related to abortion care, reproductive justice, and advocacy
  • Participating in the extensive CREATE Advisory Mentorship Network
  • Engaging in TEACH-facilitated advocacy opportunities (for instance, our residents have gone to the state capitol, Sacramento, to lobby and speak with politicians)
