Youth Leadership in Healthcare - Summer Volunteer Program

Youth Leadership in Healthcare is a six week long pilot program for youth volunteers interested in careers in the healthcare field. A small cohort of youth volunteers will be paired with adult volunteers and will explore various nursing units and specialty clinics throughout Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) and the Martinez Health Center.

Selected youth volunteers will be exposed to a different specialty and placement each week, and will also have the opportunity to hear from leaders in the field about different careers in healthcare.

Program Dates and Location

The youth summer program will take place at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center - 2500 Alhambra Ave. Martinez, CA

Start Date: June 15th, 2026

End Date: July 31st, 2026

All youth volunteers must be available for two weekly 3-hour volunteer shifts (M-Th) as well as weekly 90 minute educational session each Friday for the entire duration of the program.

Program Requirements

• Must be 16 years old (Graduated Seniors will not be considered for this pilot cohort)
• Must Complete Youth Volunteer Application
• Must Submit two letters of recommendation. 
  • Letters should be placed into a sealed envelope and should have a signature and date across the envelope closure.
  •  Letters can be dropped off or mailed to the Volunteer Office at 2500 Alhambra Avenue Martinez, CA 94553
• Selected Applicants will complete a virtual interview
• Final Applicants must attend a Parent Information Session (Date TBD)
• Final Applicants must complete the volunteer onboarding process which includes:
  • Online wheelchair, fire extinguisher, and Infection Control trainings
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for MMR and Varicella
  • A negative TB test from within the past 12 months
  • HIPPA Training
  • Additional program forms as needed.
• Final Applicants must attend a Volunteer Orientation which will take place before June 15th.

*Please note that due to the nature of this pilot program, spots are extremely limited. Only a select number of applicants will be selected to participate in this year's program.
