Updated Sept. 22, 2025

Contra Costa Regional Medical Center & Health Centers is unfortunately no longer able to offer telehealth appointments to patients whose primary insurance is Medicare. Going forward, those patients should schedule an in-person appointment to see their doctor for physical health needs. (Telehealth is still an option for mental health and behavioral health visits.)

For more information, please read our answers to frequently asked questions below.

  • Why is this happening?

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a federal agency that oversees these health coverages, is reverting to its pre-pandemic policies and restrictions regarding telehealth services. This means providers will no longer be reimbursed for telehealth medical visits delivered to patients whose primary insurance is Medicare.
  • What if I am unable to visit my doctor in person?

Unfortunately, we can only offer in-person appointments to patients with Medicare. If you require a telehealth option, you will need to get this service through another provider.
  • I have a Medicare Senior Advantage plan. Does that make a difference?

Unfortunately, no. If you have a Medicare Senior Advantage plan, you should check with your insurance as they may offer telehealth services with a contracted in-network provider. Contra Costa Regional Medical Center & Health Centers is not a contracted provider with Medicare Senior Advantage so we must follow CMS rules.
  • What if I also have secondary Medi-Cal coverage?

Since Medi-Cal is the payer of last resort, Medi-Cal expects you to access care in accordance with your primary insurance policy benefits and restrictions. So, in short, you still wouldn’t be able to schedule a telehealth visit for physical care.
