COVID-19
COVID-19 is a highly contagious respiratory coronavirus that first appeared in the United States in 2020. Its symptoms are similar to the flu: fever, congestion, sore throat and fatigue. People also sometimes report losing their sense of smell and taste when they are infected.
Most people recover at home from COVID-19, although people ages 65+ and the immunocompromised are more vulnerable to serious health problems from the virus, including death.
Vaccination is the best defense against serious illness from COVID-19. We recommend everyone stay up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccinations and get booster shots when eligible.
People with private health insurance should see their regular healthcare providers for COVID-19 related services. Contra Costa Health is committed to equity and will continue to provide COVID-19 related services to community members who have Medi-Cal and those who do not have access to health care or coverage.
People without insurance and those with Medi-Cal can make an appointment to get free COVID-19 vaccinations at our Public Health Immunization Clinics located throughout the county. People with appointments are prioritized, so scheduling in advance is encouraged. To schedule an appointment, call us at 925-608-5350 or click the button below to book an appointment online.
