MRC 2025 Fire
This page contains information related to the fire from the Martinez Refining Company (MRC) on February 1, 2025.
The county hired a toxicologist, TRC, to take soil samples from affected areas and analyze those samples for potential health concerns. TRC reported that the release did not increase risk to public health from exposure to hazardous metals in the soil.
The county also hired JEM Advisors to perform an independent investigation and root cause analysis. JEM reported that lack of contractor oversight and monitoring was a root cause of the event.
